IMPORTANT NOTICE CITY OF BOWDLE WATER/SEWER PROJECT

  • Dahme Construction of Aberdeen is the contractor for the project and is looking to move onto the project on July 17th or 18th. This project is on Main Street from 10th to 1st Ave. and construction will consist of water and sewer replacement, and street surfacing improvements. The project is anticipated to be completed in July of 2025.

** The first phase of the construction for this year is to take place between 10th Ave & 6th Ave. Should the work go smoothly, the construction may progress to other areas of the project but not in the downtown area.

  • The intent is the work will take place within 2 block sections at any one time, starting at 10th and progressing east.
  • Residents should be aware that there may be unscheduled or intermittent water service outages during the construction. The construction team, and city, will make every effort to notify residents of a pending water service outage, but this may be unavoidable. The intent is to minimize water service outages to the NW part of the city. There will be a scheduled time to shut down some areas, or all, of the water system so the contractor can install new valves in the old system. This will help gain control over the system for construction. Residents will be notified if this takes place.
  • Dahme Construction will start by recycling (grinding) portions of the existing asphalt surfacing on Main Street with a recycler machine. They will start at 10th and the construction will progress east recycling asphalt up to 6th Ave. They intend to recycle approximately 20’ wide but depending on the conditions, they may have to grind the whole roadway width.
  • The recycled surfacing (gravel) will be compacted in-place until the new water and sewer utilities are installed. After the new utilities are installed, the gravel will be replaced, and the street will remain gravel until next year’s construction. No asphalt surfacing is expected to be placed this year.
  • Dahme Construction will also start setting up a Temporary Water System on the July 17th or 18th. The temporary water system will consist of a 2” PVC main header pipe strung above ground in the back or front yards of homes. There will be small service pipelines connected to the header pipeline and connected to the house outside faucet. This will back feed water supply to the home during the construction of the new water main. Residents on the temporary system will experience low pressure while connected to the temporary water system. Residents are asked to please use water sparingly and avoid damage to the temporary water system. If the pipeline is in the front yard of houses the contractor will provide a ramp for cars to drive over the pipe. Once several blocks of the new water main are installed and tested, normal service from the new water main will be restored to homes. This will vary in terms of time and can be expected into October.
  • The Contractor plans to start switching homes over to the temporary water as soon as the temporary system is set up and tested? They expect to be making connections by July 24th. The contractor will be contacting homeowners to coordinate connection to the temp water system the week of July 22nd.
  • Residents are also asked to not remove any utility flags during the construction. Utility locates flags need to remain until all work is completed.
  • The Contractor is planning to install sanitary sewer first, and then water. They are intending to start excavating to do the utility work on or about July 24
  • The contractor will make every effort to provide access to residents, but it may not be a guarantee. Depending on the work being done there may be a short time, or overnight, that a homeowner may not be able to have driveway access to their home. They will need to park down the street or at another location. If they have RV’s or boats parked along the street, I highly recommend they move them until the construction has passed their block.

If you have any questions regarding this project, please contact the City of Bowdle at 605-285-6350.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Sincerely,

City of Bowdle
